Jackson – Wood Weekend at Wrigley
The first place Milwaukee Brewers are hopping around in first place while the cellar continues as the number 1 domicile for the Cubs. That said, Milwaukee is licking their wounds after facing the much improved Edwin Jackson, and couldn’t get enough wood on Wood as the Cubs siphoned wins from the Brewers in the weekend contests at Wrigley Field.
Both pitchers looked good as Jackson got 11 ks in a quality outing, and Travis Wood putting the cap on the Brew Crew on Sunday.
Note: Jackson has decided to take my advice from last season. I said it last year. Stop putting heat on every pitch. Mix it up, and slow it down. Location, location, location. Jackson missed a lot of pitches while serving up almost nothing but fast balls. He’s gone to a potpourri of pitches his last two outings, and stood the opponents on their heads. The man can pitch! And he pitches for location. Never thought we’d get to this point with Jackson.
Travis Wood is a control freak. This weekend he had the Brewers freaking out over his control.
Regardless of pitch counts, I miss an emphasis on the starter CG stats. It’s a changing game, and I guess I just need to adjust.
The wrap on Jackson’s Saturday outing comes from the official Cubs Home Page with a final commentary on the Sunday win.
