The Cubs had plenty of hits Friday but, only 1 was necessary. It was Addison Russell’s smack for his 1st major league HR.
There was an illuminating light emanating from the mound at Wrigley as Jon Lester allowed only 3 hits through 7. Lester added 4 Ks to the mix, with only 1 BB, and allowed no runs as he dropped his ERA by almost 2.00.
This was that pivot game, and now we know what we should begin to see as Jon Lester winds up through the season.
After yesterday’s performance, I fully believe Lester has fallen in to his groove. Captured the vibe with his first W of the year.
It appears Lester should become the Cubs premiere starting pitcher with an ERA somewhere less than 3, and on top of his game, closer to 2.00. One more key to this Cubs team drive to post season play.
The Cubs Home Page explains the details of Friday’s game.
