The Cubs are just this side of being contenders but, what’s missing?
I could run a rant on the bullpen, again but, this past month stats might prove me wrong. If this was season to date, it would be a whole other story. Merely the past month, and the bullpen by stats could have a case on me.
The Cubs have a problem. I have mentioned it before.
The descriptive term that gives my point credence is easy. The problem itself is not.
Are we ready? Here goes….Consistency!
This is one of those ball clubs that is well on their game when…..they are on their game. This pertains more to Cubs pitching.
To the starting rotation; More pitchers deep in to a game. Jake Arietta, is as close to consistent as the Cubs have for starters.
In the ‘Pen’ the Cubs have a variety of pitching but, no one you can serve up as a consistent, season long stopper.
Travis Wood is the anchor out there right now, and he can hit the ball better than most pitchers.
So, once again I am advocating for some consistency, especially on the pitching staff.
At the beginning of the season, I mentioned that should the Cubs become a solid .500 club this year, it would be a pivotal year froward.
So far, the record speaks for itself as we approach mid-season. Well above .500. 39-33 w-l as I write.
Cubs took a 3-2 loss to St. Louis on Friday, and you’re invited to check the details on the Cubs Home Page.
